NEWS AND UPDATES

Updated: August 26, 2007

The Parish of St. Benedict made history on July 11, 2007, a Wednesday, when the parishioners celebrated the Feast of St. Benedict for the first time. Triduum masses were sponsored by the three sub-parishes, namely, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (July 8), Nuestra Señora de Salvacion (July 9), and Our Lady of Remedies (July 10).

Also a first for the parish was the Sacrament of Confirmation, which was given to some seventy children and adults on July 10, during a mass celebrated by Msgr. Tony Labiao, the parish priest of St. Peter’s Church, and concelebrated by Fr. Steve Tynan, mgl.

Fr. Steve also concelebrated the mass during the actual fiesta together with his fellow priests from the Missionaries of God’s Love who are caring for the parish, Fr. Geoffrey Coombe and Fr. Brian Steele. Fr. Geoffrey delivered the homily with a PowerPoint presentation on the life of St. Benedict and the lessons that could be drawn from it. He likened St. Benedict to an archer who trained hard and who kept his eyes fixed on the goal.

After the mass, Fr. Steve launched the St. Benedict Mission Center Building Project, and he also used PowerPoint to explain the purpose and the extent of this project. The launching was held at the Don Antonio Heights Homeowners’ Association (DAHHA) Clubhouse. The DAHHA held a Dinner-Dance to raise funds for the Adoration Chapel, which is a part of the building project. They gave a check for Seventy-Five Thousand Pesos (Php75,000,00) to Fr. Steve. The Senior Choir of the Parish of St. Benedict and members of Youth Alive provided intermission numbers during the launching.

On July 7, King of Kings sponsored a Medical Mission that offered laboratory, X-ray and other tests at affordable rates to the parishioners. King of Kings donated part of the proceeds of the Medical Mission to the parish.
